There are several ways that, as an artist, you know that people dig what you are doing. You have music sales, being at the top of the music charts, selling out shows, and constantly being played on radio. I personally like to look at the sample rate…..that is….are your songs being sampled? For me, if you are being sampled, this means that you are in the consciousness of the younger generation. For example, when the Notorious B.I.G. sampled Debarge’s Stay With Me for his classic One More Chance it really introduced Debarge to a new audience.
Bobby Caldwell is an artist that has been sampled quite a bit. Artists that have sampled Caldwell’s music include Erykah Badu, John Legend, Dwele, Father MC, Aaliyah, Boyz II Men. There are a lot more, but I just wanted to give you a taste of some of the artists. My favorite song with a Bobby Caldwell sample is The Light, which uses the song Open Your Eyes.
Well, you can experience the original tunes as Caldwell is on the road as we open 2017. In January and in the beginning of February, Caldwell will be in Japan. He is there quite a bit, as he has a huge following over there.
January 25th, 27th and 28th – Billboard Live Tokyo
January 30th, February 1st and 2nd – Billboard Live Osaka
If you cannot make it out to Japan, we have some dates in the states. Jazz Alley in Seattle is THE spot for jazz music. There’s also a restaurant, so you can dine before the show.
February 23rd-26th – Jazz Alley Seattle
There will be six shows total, with two shows both Friday and Saturday nights.
The New Hope Winery will be the scene for Caldwell at the end of March.
March 25th – The New Hope Winery, PA
One thing I love about jazz shows is that there always food and wine involved!
I just had to add that Common song I like so much….in case you forgot.
